Altered (アルタード, Arutādo) are humans who 12 years ago, due to the great disaster of a star going supernova, gained supernatural abilities and some even changed their outside appearance.

Some of the altered used their abilities for good, but majority used it for crimes, and even a special Area D island-prison was created.

According to the scientists the ability of altered seems to reflect the desires hidden deep within their hearts.
